    REVOLUTION!!!!!

    Skateblast III, Apachelypse Now
    3/30/2008

The annual Skateblast weekend started on Thursday night with a session at Goodyear skatepark. Brian and Carter from JFA were mixing it up with the old homies in the big peanut bowl. Chris Farrell, Chris Kelly, Shamrock, Bucky, Pat McG, Dan McCabe and Bobby were all in there. The way these dudes skate that bowl make me proud to be a part of the AZ skate scene.

Friday morning we hit the X-court in Glendale. Rob Locker and Wrex Cook added to the mix. If you want to know how to do a line at the X-court just bring Wrex for a demo. He boosted frontside airs and ollies out of the oververt all day long. Brian was grinding it backside after just a few runs.

    Wrex Cook:

    Brian Brannon:

We headed over to the McDowell Mountain Ranch park for the afternoon session. Rob and Pat McG skated like they installed some fresh legs after lunch.

The JFA show in Tempe was packed that night; an all-ager rager. As usual the old heads came out for the old home town band.

The Skateblast contest on Saturday was bigger than ever. Even still, it retained it's feel of a session with friends more than a contest. Plenty of swag is awarded and tossed to keep the kids stoked. Apache Skateboards has to be commended for creating and nurturing an incredible level of skate culture that can't be contained by artificial geographic and cultural boundaries. True and real is the deal.

After the contest a huge car caravan headed over to the Apache Skateboards world headquarters for frybread tacos and punk rock. The bands all played killer shows but I have give a special mention to The Sirens from L.A. who's diverse sound really stood out.

The Tics had fun saying that "Phoenix sucks" but the joke is on them. Um, who has 16 skateparks and countless pools to skate? Sorry Old Pueblo, it ain't you.

By the time JFA took the stage the front yard in front of the stage had been circle pitted into a monster dust devil. They raged through another set while everyone got covered in dust. Lilly, the daugher of bass player Corey, took over the bass for dad on Beach Blanket Bong-out and killed it.

    JFA with Lilly on bass:

Sadly this old man got too tired and cold at 12:30 am and couldn't make it to see Agent Orange although I did get a change to catch up with Mike Palm.

The last picture I took of the night is of the crowd during the JFA set. Pat McG is front and center. This pretty much summed up the whole weekend. Hell yeah!

SkateRock is Music For Skaters by Skaters
Skate Rock wasn't born, created or invented. Skate Rock was inevitable. Skaters are skaters first and foremost and whatever other labels society tries to lay on us are shunned. We define ourselves. A big part of that is making our own music. Musical influences from outside skate culture were filtered, twisted and adapted. Skaters took the loud fast and angry parts of punk, stripped away the fashion pose, and injected new ideas and humor to create Skate Rock. For skaters by skaters.

Believe in the Skate Culture Revolution! Long live Skate Rock!
