And So We Went Skateboarding... 6/22/2006
Cowtown really stepped up and caused some healthy skate chaos for Go Skateboarding day. Their premier of the Black Label "Back in Black" video (which was quite good by the way) had skaters spilling into Central Ave in front of the shop. Cops had to block off a lane of traffic with 2 cruisers with their lights flashing. They were quite cool, considering. After the video, maps were tossed out for the golden egg hunt; certificates for swag stashed on most every corner of downtown Phoenix. As soon as the maps were tossed skaters were off - some skating the 4 miles through construction ravaged streets to get downtown. When I got downtown (as fast as I could drive) the streets and sidewalks were already filled with skaters going in every direction. Innocent bystanders had that WTF look on their face as more an more skaters poured into downtown. It was a hoot just to skate around and soak it in. It appears that all the eggs got snatched quick. Cowtown topped it off with another product toss downtown at 10:00pm. Just in time as the cops downtown had their nerves frayed at the sight of a couple of hundred skaters disobeying traffic laws and started the usual hassles. No better way to wrap up Go Skateboarding Day!
SkateRock is Music For Skaters by Skaters Skate Rock wasn't born, created or invented. Skate Rock was inevitable. Skaters are skaters first and foremost and whatever other labels society tries to lay on us are shunned. We define ourselves. A big part of that is making our own music. Musical influences from outside skate culture were filtered, twisted and adapted. Skaters took the loud fast and angry parts of punk, stripped away the fashion pose, and injected new ideas and humor to create Skate Rock. For skaters by skaters. Believe in the Skate Culture Revolution! Long live Skate Rock! The Editor
