    EMP Explores When Skate met Punk

    There was a time when skate mags reviewed Fleetwood Mac albums, skateparks blared Jefferson Starship, skaters had long hair and styled themselves after surfers.  Then came punk and everything changed.  Skateboarding changed from "sidewalk surfing" into it's own sport with it's own style.  This period gave birth to aggressive skateboarding, pool skating, and skatepunk. 

    Seattle's Experience Music Project (EMP) immortalized this period with their recent exhibit titled Hey Punk.  August 17-19 they brought together skatepunk bands, pro skaters, photographers,  writers and others to kick off their permanent exhibit on this most influential period.
